Welcome the Rainbow! We hear it all the time, “be sure to eat the rainbow”. But what dose that really mean? Read on to learn important information about each color group and why they are vital to your good health.

Let’s start off with Blue & Purple

These include blueberries, cabbage, eggplant and purple potatoes to name a few.  This grouping of colors contains powerful antioxidants like anthocyanins, which help shield the skin from free radicals and keep your collagen production strong.

RED

These foods are rich in lycopene, one of the most powerful antioxidants! These guys protect you from environmental toxins like pesticides, air pollutants to chemical exposures. A few examples this group of fruits and veggies are: tomatoes, beets (Amazing liver and kidney detoxer BTW) bell peppers and kidney beans.

Orange & Yellow

This grouping of fruit and veggies contain high amounts of beta-carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A.  It also improves skin health by reducing inflammation. Examples of this group are: carrots, citrus & sweet potatoes.  Tip! If you are dealing with sugar cravings, add a few sweet potatoes to your weekly diet, you’ll start to notice a decline in your sweet cravings. 😉

Green (My Favorite!!)

These bad boys are rich in TONS of needed vitamins & minerals. Vitamin K most notably, this particular vitamin helps prevent the risk of getting chronic illnesses. The minerals like Magnesium which maintain muscle health and bone formation, Iron, which naturally improves your metabolism.  A few examples of this group are: kale, spinach, broccoli, asparagus and most herbs. 

Side note: Only 10% of the population can smell the sulfur-like smell in urine after eating asparagus.

Last one, White

Yes, there are health benefits to eating white fruits and veggies!!

This grouping of foods contains high amounts of dietary fiber which helps keep your gut bacteria (The seat of health) healthy, happy and balanced. These guys are often over-looked.  Examples are: apples (“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, now ya know why) cauliflower and cucumbers.
