State of our Health, the time to Take Back your health is NOW!

I’m sure most of this comes as no surprise to any of you, however, it needs to be said again, obesity is still on the rise around the world.  According to a 2016 study from the Imperial College of London, if the global obesity trend continues, then one in five people in the world will be obese by 2025!

The obesity epidemic in America is one of our most serious health problems, and the statistics are showing us so:

The United States has the highest number of severely obese population. The average body mass index (BMI) is higher in English-speaking, high-income countries, with American men and women having the highest BMI’s. Two – thirds of the U.S. adults are either overweight or obese, and obesity rates for children had doubled in the past few years.  It’s estimated that 7 out of 10 American deaths are form Chronic Diseases.

With this information, it’s obvious to see, that it’s TIME to take back our health! Not only to feel and look better, but also from an economic stand point. If you’re healthier that means less visits to the doctor and little if any need for medications, like statin’s, blood sugar lowering drugs or blood pressure meds. That money not spent on drugs stays in your bank account.

The most common diseases leading to the causes of death according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are, heart disease and cancer, along with, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. Medications and surgeries help to manage these, but they don’t address the root causes.

The food we eat every day is so powerful. There’s overwhelming scientific evidence that a whole-food, plant-based diet can help prevent, at times stop or reverse heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Welcome WFPB! What’s this you ask, it stands for Whole-Food, Plant-Based diet. This means a diet centered on whole-foods and is plant-based, with refined or minimally refined plants. It’s a diet based on fruits and vegetables, tubers, whole grains and legumes. It excludes or minimizes meat (including chicken and fish), dairy products and eggs, as well as highly refined foods like bleached flour and refined sugars and oils.

Here’s a list to give you an idea. This is the foundation on which I designed my 6 Week Health Challenge©. By shifting to this style of eating (notice I said style, not Diet) you’ll feel better, look better and will be helping your body heal any health challenges you may have. Keep in mind, this shift in eating is NOT a diet of salads.  Use the listed ingredients below to create familiar dishes, such as pizza, lasagna, burritos, and veggie burgers.

Fruits: Apples, grapes, bananas, mangoes, strawberries, etc…

Veggies: Broccoli, lettuce, kale, carrots, spinach and any others you enjoy.

Tubers: Potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, ect…

Legumes: Chickpeas, lentils, black beans, lima beans, ect…

Whole Grains: Quinoa, barley, rice, oats, millet, etc., including whole grain breads and pastas.
